Niall Portriat

Niall Donaghy is a sculptor and sculpture based installation artist. He received a Masters degree in Fine Art from York University in Toronto, ON, a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from NSCAD University in Halifax, NS, and a Fine Arts Diploma from Fanshawe College in London, ON. Niall has lived and maintained a studio in Hawkestone, ON since 2008.

Donaghy has been exhibiting his work nationally since 2000. Recent Solo exhibitions include; Material in Motion, 2001 at Ground Zero- Forest City Gallery, London, ON; Labrys, 2003 at Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, NS; Variations of a Circular Motion, 2005 at Gallery Neubacher, Toronto, ON; Superfortress, 2006 at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery; Labyrinth Coaster, 2009 at the Campus Gallery & MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie, ON.

Recent group exhibitions include; Flight Dreams, 2008 at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax, NS; Showcase .07, 2007, Cambridge Galleries, Cambridge, ON; Woodlot, 2007, KWAG, Kitchener, ON.

In 2005, Donaghy was a participant in the 1st Atlantic Stone Carving Symposium in Cape Breton, NS. Niall has received a number of awards and grants including: a City of Barrie Cultural Grant, 2010; City of Barrie Emerging Artist Award, 2009; Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Grant, 2009; a Social Science and Humanities Research Council Grant in 2004; First Prize – Jurors Choice Award, Art on Edge, Juried Exhibition, Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant, Brantford, ON, 2003; First Prize – Toronto Dominion Bank Award, Biannual Juried Exhibition, Grimsby Public Art Gallery, Grimsby, ON, 2001.
